Quick answer

  • Accuracy measures how close your moves were to Stockfish's best moves, from 0% to 100%.
  • Most club players land between 70% and 85%; the number of blunders per game usually matters more than the last few points.
  • To improve fastest, fix your biggest leak: the mistake pattern you repeat most.

How it works

  1. 1We take your last 10 finished games (or the PGNs you paste) and look at your moves from move 5 on.
  2. 2Stockfish, running on your device, scores each move against the best one. Accuracy is worked out with the same formula as our game review (the method Lichess uses): 100% means every move was as good as the engine's choice.
  3. 3Moves that throw away a lot of winning chances are counted as mistakes or blunders, and each one is sorted into a pattern: hanging pieces, missed tactics, missed mates, king safety and so on.
  4. 4Your accuracy is shown next to the typical accuracy of real Chess.com players around 800, 1200, 1600 and 2000, measured on their own games in exactly the same way.

How we measured real players

  • 37 real Chess.com players, picked at random from public country lists and spread from about 400 to 2100 rapid rating.
  • Up to 5 recent rapid games each, measured 2026-11-06: 5 recent rapid games per player; moves from move 5; each move scored with Stockfish (best at depth 12, played at depth 11); game accuracy as on /review (Lichess formula), averaged per player. No usernames stored.
  • Only each player's rating and results are kept; no names or usernames are stored or shown.

FAQ

What is a good chess accuracy?add

It depends on the game. In our measurements the middle half of real players sat between about 70% and 85% at every level from 800 to 2000, so a single game above 90% is excellent at any level.

Why doesn't it tell me my level as a number?add

Because accuracy alone can't. Players hundreds of points apart often have the same accuracy, so we show where you fit among real players instead of inventing a number.

Why is my accuracy high when I lose?add

Accuracy measures how much each move lowers your chance of winning. Once a game is clearly lost, that chance is already near zero, so further mistakes barely change it. Beginners spend many moves in lost positions, which lifts their accuracy. Look at blunders per game too: it shows the real picture.

Why is my accuracy different from Chess.com's?add

Each site uses its own engine settings and formula. Ours matches Lichess's method and our own game review. Compare figures from the same tool.

Do you store my games?add

No. Games are fetched, analysed in your browser and thrown away. If you share your accuracy, the card contains only the percentage.
